I am mad right now. I'm supposed to see TTAC tomorrow right so I go look for the times and the theaters close to me are not even playing it!!! Something's not right and then they show 8 mile and Ghost Ship preview too much. I think I'm about to0 . ARRGH!!! I'm about to cry I'm afraid to see what number it is at Top Bx Office! I hate Hollywood sometimes. They didn't promote TTAC enough. Is it limited film or what!! |

I know what you mean Baby Junior. It is not playing in the cinema near where I live either. I wanted to see it but it looks like I may have to wait a while. There are a lot of dumb movies playing but not TTAC. I just don't understand. |

It's open wide. It's not POTA sized numbers, but it's not limited like The Yards. I live near SF, so I have quite a few theatres to choose from. Are you guys in a small town/city? I used to have problems seeing films I wanted to see when I was at University (it was in a small town). If so, I guess you have to get into the city to see it. Use Yahoo Movie and it should tell you the closest place for you to see Charlie.
Promotion is a bit low keyed compared to the other Universal films, but its there in a different media mix than what you may be used to.
This is what I see around my area. The malls have the poster up on the 'You are here' map holders. Had nearly a full sized ad in the paper today. Full sized color ads in the alternative papers. Demme was in town last week, did an interview (along with Park) with my ABC affilate and the SF Chronicle.
I'm beginning to think they're using a hybrid independent film marketing scheme with a slightly larger budget. If its true and Charlie does well this weekend, promotion should go up more the following week. And if it does really well, it might even pick up some theatres from Ghostship and Jacka**.
Both Thandie & Tim are on Carson Daly this week, so it would fit in to my thinking, The interviews have been scattered both before & after the film opens unlike POTA or RS which were concentrated on just before the film opened.
There's a bunch of other factors, but I don't want to bore you with them. Suffice to say they aren't putting all there money in one basket.
I actually kinda like this type of marketing as I much rather Mark's movie last in the theatres for more than 3 weeks. BN was one that stuck around for a long while - ran for months here. Another, more recent example is My Big Fat Greek Wedding. That movie has been out for ages and its still in the top 10 while the same movies that came out when it did are long gone and on video shelves.
Anyway, yeah you most likely will have to get someone to drive you to another city to see it. It'll be an adventure - Mark went to Paris, you to the big city to see his movie. |
